Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival
This festival is a perfect mix of arts, culture and celebration which held in Ubon Ratchathani (Isaan’s biggest city). All huge wax sculptures are crafted by international teams of artists, mixing traditional art with more modern, abstract creations. The wax works are paraded around town area, accompanied by dancers and traditional folk music. Principally, this is a religious festival on a sacred Buddhist holiday, when followers donate needed items to monks, but there is still a party atmosphere throughout the city.
Please keep in mind that no alcohol is allowed to be sold in Thailand on Buddhist holidays, but anyway it can be consumed. Some locals will stock up those alcohol drinks the day before and will be discreet about drinking out of respect for devout Buddhists and Buddhism.
